Breaking Barriers and Building Futures: My Journey as a Woman in Engineering

Engineering has historically been a field with a disproportionately low representation of women, yet the landscape is steadily evolving as more women choose to pursue and excel in these dynamic careers. This talk will explore the journey of a woman in engineering, offering a personal perspective on the challenges she overcame and the triumphs she celebrated. Through sharing my own experiences, from initial curiosity and education to navigating professional environments and leading innovative projects, I aim to illuminate the unique strengths and perspectives women bring to the engineering world. We will discuss strategies for fostering an inclusive environment, the importance of mentorship and allyship, and practical advice for aspiring female engineers. This presentation seeks to inspire and empower, demonstrating that with passion, perseverance, and a supportive community, women can not only succeed but also significantly shape the future of engineering.
Supavadee Aramvith received a B.S. (first class honors) degree in Computer Science from Mahidol University in 1993. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington, Seattle, USA, in 1996 and 2001, respectively. She joined Chulalongkorn University in June 2001. She is an associate professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering specializing in video technology. She has successfully advised 14 Ph.D., 30 Master’s, and 41 Bachelor’s Graduates. She published over 150 papers in International Conference Proceedings and Journals with 4 International Book Chapters. She has rich project management experience as the project leader and former technical committee chair for Thailand's government bodies in telecommunications and ICT. She is very active in the international arena, having leadership positions in IEEE and NICT ASEAN IVO. She serves as the IEEE Thailand Section Chair, IEEE New Initiative Chair-Elect, the IEEE Product Safety Engineering Society treasurer, the IEEE-HKN Regions 7–10 Governor, the IEEE MGA Chapter Operations Support Committee Past Chair, the IEEE Ethics and Member Conduct Committee, IEEE Awards Board Joint Awards with National Societies Chair, and IEEE Region 10 Membership Development Committee Chair (South Asia and Pacific).

本講演では、私自身の経験を通して企業でキャリアを築くための様々な方法についてお話しするとともに、 企業から計測自動制御学会（SICE）などの学会活動に参加するメリットについても紹介します。
1988年東京都立大学 理学部卒業（学士）、 2005年筑波大学 ビジネス科学研究科修了（経営学修士）、 2008年東京工業大学 総合理工学研究科修了（博士（工学））。 NECグループ、ソニー株式会社にてソフトウェアエンジニアおよびソフトウェア研究者を経て、 現在は、東京エレクトロン株式会社のプロモーション担当VP、田中精密工業株式会社の社外取締役を務める。 DX（Digital Transformation）のプロモーションに従事する。

学会で得られた人脈の恩恵とその経緯

SICEをはじめとする学会での活動を通じて得られた人脈から、これまで自分があずかってきた恩恵の具体例を紹介します。 併せて、そのような人脈が得られた要因と思われるものも紹介します。
1996年東京工業大学大学院理工学研究科制御工学専攻修了． 同年日本学術振興会特別研究員． 1999年大阪大学大学院工学研究科助手， 2002年同研究科講師， 2005年同研究科助教授， 2007年同研究科准教授， 2015年名古屋大学大学院工学研究科准教授， 2024年中部大学工学部教授となり，現在に至る． モデルベース制御，ロバスト制御，制御工学教育などの研究に従事． IEEE，システム制御情報学会，鉄鋼協会などの会員．博士（工学）． https://researchmap.jp/read0191224
